Laying the Foundation for Total Health
In some ways, one could say that rehabilitative care is a bit like building a house - certain things have to happen in a particular order in order for everything to stand strong and work together correctly. These concepts apply to your body as well, and manual therapies like Chiropractic, Physiotherapy, and Massage Therapy, address many common reasons why people experience pain and other health issues. If something is not right with your body's foundation, than that needs to be addressed before true health can be achieved.
Each new patient is thoroughly assessed by the health practitioner to come to a conclusion about the diagnosis of the complaint and to then provide the most effective treatment to help the patient recover.
Phase 1: Relief Care
If you are in pain when you come into our Toronto Rehabilitation office, our first objective is to help you reduce pain and start feeling better as soon as possible. Depending on the severity of the underlying condition which is causing your pain, it is typical for a patient to need care or 1-2 times per week until pain and function start to improve.
Phase 2: Corrective/Restorative Care
During this phase, muscles and other tissues are allowed to heal more completely, which helps prevent further injury or pain. The goal of corrective or restorative care is to help bring your body back to 100% functioning. Treatment frequency decreases in this phase as your body heals. Responsibility is transferred onto the patient here, so that you can help take control of the treatment and make the required changes, ie. exercises, diet, postural correction, to help give you the best recovery.
Phase 3: Wellness Care
Once your body has fully healed and you are no longer experiencing pain or other pain symptoms, it is important to come in for periodic treatment to avoid further problems in the future. Usually, this phase of care only requires a visit to the clinic every 4-6 weeks to continue receiving the benefits of your treatment.
